The surgery is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. In addition, and in common with other surgeries in the area, on the third Thursday of each month from 12 noon the surgery will be open for "non clinical" enquiries/requests only and to support educational/training for the staff. There will also be occasions when the surgery will be fully closed on the third Thursday from noon when required.
Telephone access is 08:00 to 18:30 Monday to Friday.
Out of Hours (OOH) services are provided when the surgery is closed in the evening, overnight, weekend, bank holidays and the third Thursday** of each month for those conditions that cannot wait until normal surgery opening.

Should you require urgent medical attention during these times please telephone (01443) 404444. Please have a pen and paper to hand to take down the telephone number of the out of hours service.
On contacting the OOH service a trained call handler will answer your call, with priority of need and proper place of treatment determined by doctors centrally. You may be asked to visit a primary care centre and transport may be provided for those with access difficulties. A home visit will only be made if considered necessary by the triage doctor. Please note that attendance at the out of hours centre is by invitation only.
Should there be any delay or difficulty in contacting the service and the patient is unconscious, suffering heavy blood loss, severe breathlessness or severe chest pain we suggest you dial 999 and request an ambulance.

Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
If you have a life threatening medical emergency such as loss of consciousness, severe chest pain, heavy blood loss, severe head injury, severe trauma, severe difficulty breathing or have been involved in a severe road traffic accident, please phone 999.

Normal surgery opening times are 8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday. Surgeries are no longer open on Saturday mornings.
An appointment system is in operation for all doctors, nurses, clinics and patient care programmes:
For urgent matters only. The receptionist will take brief details of your problem and the triage or duty doctor will call you back within an hour. You will be seen by the most appropriate team-member if an appointment is appropriate.
Appointments can be booked up to 3 weeks in advance.
Appointments may be made in person or by telephoning (01443) 404444 during surgery opening times. Appointments can also be booked, checked and cancelled online 24 hours a day, using My Health Online (instructions for registering and using My Health Online are found under the tab 'Online Services' within the Menu tab).
Please make a separate appointment for each person who wishes to be seen. You may choose to see any available health professional.
Telephone lines are open between 08:00 and 18:30, Monday to Friday.
Following feedback from the patient questionnaire and to help reduce the amount of unnecessary calls to the Practice, can ALL patients please be mindful that if they are asked to book a follow up appointment to review the results there is no need to ring the surgery. If you do not have a follow up appointment please telephone for test results between 14:00 – 16:30.

Please note that Ashgrove Surgery has launched an automated telephone appointment booking system which patients can use around the clock. Known as Patient Partner, the automated system enables patients to book, cancel or amend appointments at any time without the need to speak to a receptionist. The automated system has been designed to make it easier for patients to call at any time to manage their appointments, freeing up telephone lines for other queries and urgent problems.
Ashgrove Surgery is committed to providing excellent patient care, but as one of the largest surgeries in Pontypridd, pressure on the phone lines can cause delays. Ashgrove Surgery wants to make it as easy as possible for patients to get in touch with the practice and Patient Partner will offer improved flexibility and access for our patients.
Callers can schedule, amend or cancel routine appointments with their GP, in addition to specific clinics such as phlebotomy. This system allows patients to notify the surgery if their appointment is no longer needed, enabling appointments to be reallocated to other patients.
Ashgrove Surgery hopes that as patients get used to the system, more people will use it. We realise that not everyone will want to use the automated service and if people prefer to speak to a receptionist to make an appointment, they may do so or use our My Health Online system.
The new system is simple to use. Calls are made to the surgery's usual number. Callers then select the Patient Partner option from the menu (option 1), entering their personal identifiable information for security purposes. The system detects spaces in the doctors' and nurses' diaries, and the patient can then choose their preferred appointment time by pressing a button on their touch tone phone. They can also use the system to check, amend or cancel appointments. Patient Partner was developed by unified communication specialists Voice Connect who have worked with GP surgeries for over 20 years. It is currently installed at around 800 surgeries across the UK.

Students should telephone (01443) 404444 for appointments at other times, when the consultation will be held at the main surgery.
Often problems can be dealt with by telephone. The receptionist may take your telephone number and ask an appropriately qualified person to ring you back. For conditions such as backache, colds, laryngitis, hay fever, diarrhoea / gastroenteritis, cystitis, thrush, period pains, constipation, threadworms it may be considered appropriate to offer you a telephone consultation. Should the health professional subsequently feel it necessary for you to be seen at the surgery an appointment will be offered to you.
Please ensure your mobile number is up to date in your records at the surgery in order for you to receive text message reminders regarding your appointments.
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00am.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
