Appointments

An appointment system is in operation for all doctors, nurses, clinics and patient care programmes:

  1. Book-on-the-day appointments are reserved for medical emergencies only and will be triaged first.
  2. The On-Call GP will be assisted by a triage Doctor.
  3. For less urgent or routine matters, appointments are pre-bookable with 48 hours notice.

Emergency Appointments (Same Day)

For urgent matters only. The receptionist will take brief details of your problem and the triage or duty doctor will call you back within an hour. You will be seen by the most appropriate team-member if an appointment is appropriate.

Planned Review Appointments

Appointments can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance.

Appointments may be made in person or by telephoning (01443) 404444 during surgery opening times.  Appointments can also be booked, checked and cancelled online 24 hours a day, using My Health Online (instructions for registering and using My Health Online are found under the tab 'Online Services' within the Menu tab).

Please make a separate appointment for each person who wishes to be seen.  You may choose to see any available health professional.

Telephone lines are open between 08:00 and 18:30, Monday to Friday.

Following feedback from the patient questionnaire and to help reduce the amount of unnecessary calls to the Practice, can ALL patients please be mindful that if they are asked to book a follow up appointment to review the results there is no need to ring the surgery. If you do not have a follow up appointment please telephone for test results between 14:00 – 16:30.

Please note doctor and nurse special interests prior to making an appointment.  You may find it helpful to see a health professional with an interest appropriate to your condition.

In order that our receptionists may offer you an appointment with the most appropriate health care professional, it would be helpful if you can give an indication of the condition for which you are seeking medical advice.

Patients arriving late may be asked to make an alternative appointment.

Please let us know as soon as possible if cancelling an appointment.

Patient Partner

Please note that Ashgrove Surgery has launched an automated telephone appointment booking system which patients can use around the clock.  Known as Patient Partner, the automated system enables patients to book, cancel or amend appointments at any time without the need to speak to a receptionist.  The automated system has been designed to make it easier for patients to call at any time to manage their appointments, freeing up telephone lines for other queries and urgent problems.

Ashgrove Surgery is committed to providing excellent patient care, but as one of the largest surgeries in Pontypridd, pressure on the phone lines can cause delays.  Ashgrove Surgery wants to make it as easy as possible for patients to get in touch with the practice and Patient Partner will offer improved flexibility and access for our patients.

Callers can schedule, amend or cancel routine appointments with their GP, in addition to specific clinics such as phlebotomy.  This system allows patients to notify the surgery if their appointment is no longer needed, enabling appointments to be reallocated to other patients.

Ashgrove Surgery hopes that as patients get used to the system, more people will use it.  We realise that not everyone will want to use the automated service and if people prefer to speak to a receptionist to make an appointment, they may do so or use our My Health Online system.

The new system is simple to use.  Calls are made to the surgery's usual number.  Callers then select the Patient Partner option from the menu (option 1), entering their personal identifiable information for security purposes.  The system detects spaces in the doctors' and nurses' diaries, and the patient can then choose their preferred appointment time by pressing a button on their touch tone phone.  They can also use the system to check, amend or cancel appointments.  Patient Partner was developed by unified communication specialists Voice Connect who have worked with GP surgeries for over 20 years.  It is currently installed at around 800 surgeries across the UK.

Monday to Friday 08:10 to 11:00 and 13:30 to 18:00

Practice Nurses / Health Care Practitioners

Monday to Friday 08:10 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 17:45

University of South Wales

Doctors from the practice hold surgeries for students at the University Health Centre during term time as follows:

Monday: 14:00 to 16:30

Wednesday: 14:00 to 16:30

Friday: 10:00 to 12:00

Please contact the University Health Centre (01443) 482081 to make an appointment.

Students should telephone (01443) 404444 for appointments at other times, when the consultation will be held at the main surgery.

Telephone Consultations

Often problems can be dealt with by telephone.  The receptionist may take your telephone number and ask an appropriately qualified person to ring you back.  For conditions such as backache, colds, laryngitis, hay fever, diarrhoea / gastroenteritis, cystitis, thrush, period pains, constipation, threadworms it may be considered appropriate to offer you a telephone consultation.  Should the health professional subsequently feel it necessary for you to be seen at the surgery an appointment will be offered to you.
